Volunteers and Supporters Enjoy Annual Holy Island Pilgrimage

More than 100 CAFOD supporters and volunteers came together for the annual Holy Island pilgrimage on Saturday July 1.

Plenty of the pilgrims walked around three miles across the causeway in support of the Power to Be campaign.

 A Mass of Thanksgiving was then held in the Priory Church, celebrated by Father Chris Hughes and Father Jim O’Keefe.

Holy Island Pilgirmage – Saturday July 1

CAFOD supporters and volunteers are invited to join together for the annual Holy Island pilgrimage on Saturday July 1.

The pilgrimage is set to start at 1pm and for anyone not walking across the causeway, there will be a liturgy at St Aidan’s RC Church at 1.30pm.

A Mass of Thanksgiving will be held at 4pm in the Priory Church, celebrated by Father Chris Hughes.

Over 150 Catholics attend Lampedusa cross pilgrimage to Holy Island

Parish volunteer Kevin Haigh, from St. Joseph’s Birtley was one of the 150 Catholics who took part in this year’s annual Holy Island pilgrimage, walking the Causeway with CAFOD’s Lampedusa cross to raise awareness of the refugee crisis. He joined 50 others in writing messages of hope for refugees and walking the mile-long pilgrimage. Here he recounts his experience. Continue reading
