CAFOD has been presented with a £1,000 cheque after generous fundraising at a County Durham school.
Year 10 pupils at St Bede’s Catholic School and Sixth Form College raised the incredible amount through a variety of ideas, including cake sales, tombola’s and non-uniform days.
School chaplain Kirsty Hutchinson spoke of her delight at raising so much money. She said: “Our students have a real sense of helping those less fortunate than us and they are incredibly generous children.
“The students have a really sense of pride at being able to raise so much money.
“You hear so much negative press about young people but in this case, you can’t help but admire them.”
CAFOD Hexham and Newcastle education volunteer, Andrew Lee accepted the cheque on behalf of CAFOD.
He said: “When a school goes out of it’s way like this, it is marvellous. We can’t express how fantastic it is.
“The students are a real credit to the school, their families and themselves.”
