Crissi Booth reports on how a school in Durham have been raising awareness of the refugee crisis.
Recently, a St. Leonard’s Catholic school teacher, from Durham, has taken the time to prepare an Advent Quiz for her pupils – a fun way to educate and raise awareness about refugees.
The content of the quiz consisted of many multiple choice questions, the answers of which contained recent statistics, such as:
- 51% of refugees are under the age of 18
- 23% of the world’s refugees are Syrian
- 297,000 British people left Britain in 2015
The figures were then made relatable by comparing them to figures we may know – 65.3 million, as shown in the picture to the right, is the number of people who have had to flee their homes or country of origin.
The quiz was an informative way to show people the level of crisis, and raise awareness about how much help others may need – even St. Leonards population was used as a comparison! These sort of resources are the best way to let people know what’s going on, and the whole school took part in this quiz last Friday (years 7-13).
Finally, we would like to say a huge thank you to the CAFOD young leaders for all your hard work and dedication – you’re really making a difference, keep it up!
