As part of the worldwide action on Climate Change, on Sunday 29 November 640 people, of all ages, joined in North East Call To Action Family Parade & Climate March in Newcastle City Centre. CAFOD volunteer and member of North East Call To Action, Kevin Haigh sent us this report:
“Everyone met in Princess Square Newcastle, we had face painting and banner making for children- 6 of my grandchildren and their parents were in attendance which was great for me because my family are sick of me going on about the challenge of Global Warming. We had a few speeches of encouragement and set of at 2pm with BBC T.V. cameras recording the start of the march which went from Princess Square along Saville Row, onto Northumberland street ( Newcastle’s biggest and most popular shopping area ). Up to St. Thomas’s Church then round to our meeting place outside Northumbria University.
It was attended by 640 folks, which was double that of last year and we concluded with more encouragement from speakers, the first of whom was eleven year old Tamin from a local Primary School and included Chi Onwurah – Newcastle M.P. and John Grundy Historian, presenter and NE-CAP Governor. It Lasted about two hours altogether but everyone agreed it was well worth while. I trust we get some concrete positive decisions in Paris this week”.
