Ben Price, who stars as Nick Tilsley in Coronation Street, today called on the people of the North East to get behind the urgent appeal for support for communities in the Philippines devastated by Typhoon Haiyan. Ben, who is an ambassador for CAFOD, says your donations are vital to help the emergency relief effort.
CAFOD is one of the fourteen charities who make up the Disasters Emergency Committee, which has already raised millions of pounds in donations from across the country. But Ben says more will be needed to help the people of the Philippines recover from the incredible devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan, thought to be the strongest storm ever to make landfall.
The Coronation Street star, who is originally from Newcastle, said:
“I’ve personally been struck by the devastating scenes from the Philippines, and the terrible images and stories of the families and communities destroyed.
“As a result of this coverage, many individuals, schools and community groups in Newcastle and beyond will be raising money for the DEC emergency appeal and for CAFOD, a charity which has worked for decades in the Philippines alongside local partners and knows exactly how to get help to the most remote regions and hardest-hit communities.
“I am sure everyone in the North East will respond with their usual generosity to the fundraising appeals from CAFOD and other DEC agencies this weekend, knowing that every penny they can afford will go to support those in the greatest need.”
